Russ Eisenstein is the new

Aug. 9, 2007

Pocatello, ID --- Russ Eisenstein, who has spent the past two years as the play-by-play man for the Single A Eugene Emeralds and the studio host for the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, has been named as the "Voice of the Bengals" by Director of Athletics Paul A. Bubb. Eisenstein, who will have the title of Director of Broadcast Services and Sales, takes over for Dave Reichelt, who served as ISU's play-by-play voice for football and men's basketball for five years.

Eisenstein's official Bengal debut will take place on September 8 when Idaho State hosts Southern Oregon in the season opener at 3:05 pm at Holt Arena. He will be the sixth-youngest Division I-FCS play-by-play announcer for football in the country this season.

Eisenstein has a tremendous background for someone all of 27 years old. In addition to the Eugene Emeralds of the Single A Northwest League and the Hornets, he has worked for a pair of FCS schools in Illinois State and Southern Illinois. Russ served as the play-by-play voice for Illinois State baseball and the studio host for Illinois State football and men's basketball from 2003-05, and he held the same duties with Southern Illinois from 2001-03. He served as the Salukis women's basketball play-by-play voice for the 1999-2000 season.

"We are fortunate to have someone with Russ' experience joining our staff," said Bubb. "His vast play-by-play experience with college football, basketball and minor league baseball, combined with his work as a studio host and the technical experience he brings to the position will strengthen and help build our overall media presentation."

"I am thrilled to be a part of the Idaho State University family, being "The Voice of the Bengals" is a title that gives me incredible pride. There's nothing like college athletics, and a broadcast should reflect that passion and pageantry. It is my goal to provide the coverage that the great Bengals fans deserve."

Eisenstein also has hosted various radio sport talk programs, including a four-hour sports talk show on WJBC in Bloomington, Illinois for over two years, along with news reporting, play-by-play, weather, and special reports. He also has served as a reporter and anchor for the 40 station metro News Statewide Network in West Virginia. He also has garnered a pair of Illinois Broadcaster Association Awards, and a pair of Illinois Associated Press Association Awards.

Eisenstein also served as the play-by-play voice for Illinois Wesleyan in 2003, and he also brings with him five years of experience doing high school football and basketball play-by-play. However, Eisenstein's biggest splash was his work with the NBA's New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets.

Russ served as the studio host for the pregame, halftime, and postgame shows on the 25 station Hornet Radio Network, and he also hosted the "Final Buzz" postgame show. Eisenstein also saw time on the television side as a host and reporter on "Hornets TV" and "Hornets Insider", and he served as a regular contributor to NBA.com and other NBA outlets. He was one of the youngest NBA studio hosts in recent league history.

"I am thrilled to be a part of the Idaho State University family, being "The Voice of the Bengals" is a title that gives me incredible pride," said Eisenstein. "There's nothing like college athletics, and a broadcast should reflect that passion and pageantry. It is my goal to provide the coverage that the great Bengals fans deserve."

The technology savvy Eisenstein originally hails from Bolingbrook, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. He graduated from Southern Illinois in 2002 with a B.A. is radio and television, and a minor in journalism. Along with his broadcast duties of football and men's basketball, Eisenstein will also assist the ISU athletic marketing department and the Bengal Sports Corporate Partner program.
