Mission Statement
The Athletics Department at Idaho State University
conducts a
diverse athletics program consistent with the mission of the University. The intercollegiate athletics program is an
integral part of the University and the community of Southeast Idaho. The
athletics
program contributes significantly to the outreach mission of the
University,
both in fostering institutional spirit and generating spectator appeal.
Given
the high media visibility of athletics and athletes, a successful
program
presents a positive image of the University to the regional community. Education and athletic excellence are the
cornerstones of the athletics program.
The success of the program is to be measured by the performance
of its
student-athletes and staff in their academic and athletic pursuits,
both in
their years at Idaho
State University
and further, their contributions to society.
The student-athlete concept is
the
guiding principle of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The personal well being of its
student-athletes is considered the most important priority. Accordingly, the Athletics Department will
create an environment wherein all student-athletes regardless of
gender,
ethnicity, race, national origin, color, creed, sexual orientation,
age,
disability, or religion are given the opportunity to participate and
succeed
both academically and athletically. A
well run intercollegiate athletics program contributes to educational
and
personal growth of young men and women by developing the positive
attributes of
dedication, discipline, responsibility, cooperation, self-confidence,
leadership and citizenship. Athletics at
Idaho State University
offers a worthwhile experience for student-athletes to further develop
their
intellectual and athletic talents while striving for individual, team,
and
institutional success.
In the implementation of this
mission
statement, the Department's administrative and coaching staffs will
strictly uphold institutional policies,
the rules and regulations of
the Big Sky Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic
Association (NCAA)
Bylaws. Staff members will conduct their
programs consistent with the highest level of integrity and excellence.
