March 5, 2008
Pocatello, ID --- Idaho State University junior guard Matt Stucki, a native of Pocatello, was named to Second Team All-Conference in a vote of the league's nine coaches, announced conference officials on Wednesday. Along with Stucki, teammates Logan Kinghorn and Amorrow Morgan were both named honorable mention. Portland State led the way with two first team picks, including Jeremiah Dominguez, who was both the Conference Newcomer and Player of the Year. Dominguez was also on the first team, along with teammate Deonte Huff. The other first team members were Carlos Taylor of Montana State, Andrew Strait of Montana, Arturas Valeika of Weber State, and Kyle Landry of Northern Arizona. Stucki was one of five picked to the second team, along with Kellen Williams of Eastern Washington, Scott Morrison of Portland State (who was Defensive Player of the Year), John Wilson of Northern Arizona, and Dezmon Harris of Weber State. Stucki leads the Bengals in scoring at 11.6 points per game, and his 105 assists and 35 steals also leads Idaho State. Twice this season Stucki scored a career-high 26 points in a game, and he is ranked among the conference leaders in free throw percentage at .736, and he is second on the team in blocks with 11. Kinghorn, who was the Freshman of the Year back in 2005, is Idaho State's leading rebounder at 5.0 rebounds per game. The heart and soul of the Bengal team, Kinghorn has three times pulled down double-doubles this season, all in ISU wins. For Morgan, the sophomore is second on the team in scoring with a 9.7 average, and his 84 assists is second on the team, behind Stucki. Morgan, who shot just .182 from the field last year, is shooting .450 from the field, and his 15 three-pointers is third on the squad. "This is a great honor for Matt to be recognized by the other coaches," said Joe O'Brien. "He has been very steady for us all year, and his consistency is what helped him earn this honor." O'Brien was also excited to see Logan and Amorrow honored. "For Logan, this is a nice way to cap off his senior year. His energy and passion mean so much for our club, and Amorrow has really improved not just from last year to this year, but throughout the season, and we can say that about a lot of our guys." The Bengals are the #4 seed in the Intel 2008 Big Sky Conference Tournament, and they will take on #5 Montana on Saturday night at 7:05 pm in Holt Arena. The winner will advance to the semifinals on Tuesday night. Both the semifinals and finals will be held at the Rose Garden, the home of the Portland Trailblazers. Fans can purchase tickets for the quarterfinal game at Holt Arena, or the two rounds in Portland, by contacting the ISU ticket office at 208-282-FANS, or online at www.isubengals.com. |
