May 2, 2008
Pocatello, ID --- Idaho State University head men's basketball coach Joe O'Brien has announced that Sherrod Baldwin out of Memphis' Collierville High School, has been signed to a letter of intent for the 2008-09 season, completing ISU's recruiting for the upcoming year. Baldwin joins four junior college players, David Busma, Phyllip Taylor, Kal Bay, and Felix Caspari, as the recruiting class of 2008. Baldwin, a 6-0, 180 pound guard, was one of the top players in Memphis last season, scoring 22.7 points per game for Collierville High School as he ranked fourth throughout Memphis in scoring. His best scoring game came against Collierville's arch rival Houston High, when he scored 44 points. Baldwin shot .537 from the field and .357 from three-point range, and he also averaged 5.9 rebounds per game. Baldwin, who was Collierville's Most Valuable Player each of the last three seasons, was named by the Memphis Commercial Appeal as a Player of the Week, and also All-Memphis. He was twice named to the 15-AAA All-District Tournament Team in both 2006-07 and 2007-08, and he also was named to the Memphis All-Star Team. "Sherrod is a tremendous addition to our program. He is an outstanding young man, a very good student, and guard that can really score," said O'Brien, who will officially start his third season against Eastern Oregon on November 14 at home. "His signing completes our recruiting class for 2008. Our depth, size, and talent are much improved. I think we now have a chance to be a very good team." |
