April 11, 2008
Pocatello, ID --- Idaho State University is ready to finish off their second week of spring practice as they will hold their first scrimmage of the spring season at 9:00 am on Saturday morning on the South Practice Field outside of Holt Arena. The scrimmage is slated to start at approximately 9:20 am. The scrimmage will showcase an offense vs. defense format, and it will be divided into three sections. The one-offense will go against the one-defense and so forth over a set period of time from three differing starting yard-lines. The first few series will take place from the 30-yard line going out (70 yards from the end zone), and then they will start from the 50, and then work on red-zone from the 20-yard line. Each period will last approximately 15-20 minutes, and in between each period will be special teams work. The Bengals will also have scrimmages next week at 2:00 pm, and then the annual Spring Game, which will take place inside Holt Arena on Friday, April 25 at 6:00 pm. The Spring Game kicks off a busy weekend of events at ISU, as Saturday is also the final home doubleheader of the season for the softball team, and then the Bengal Foundation Auction is at 6:00 pm on Saturday night at the Red Lion. Head coach John Zamberlin, who has a starting quarterback in place in Russel Hill, who threw for over 2,300 yards as a freshman last season, now has his first chance to see his spring group in game action. "The great thing about spring scrimmages is you can get a lot of younger and new players a good look and get them on tape. It's a great teaching tool for the staff, but at the same time, you want to see hard hitting and good technique out there," said Zamberlin. "We have some guys we will hold out, but for the guys that will participate, it is a chance to really see how far we've come in just the past seven practices." |
