Bengal Football to Go for a Different Kind of Sack on Monday

John Zamberlin's squad will help Roy Lacey and the Idaho Food Bank

April 17, 2008

Pocatello, ID --- When a football team gets a sack, it brings a huge roar from the crowd, and it makes a difference in the game. On Monday night, Idaho State's football team will again go for a sack, but there will be no roar, and no crowd. However, it will make a difference in the lives of many in Southeast Idaho, for on Monday, members of the Idaho State football team will head over to the Southeast chapter of the Idaho Food Bank and help sack potatoes to send to needy families.

According to Zamberlin, about 20 to 25 Bengals along with the coaching staff will be on hand starting at seven o'clock to gather potatoes out of bins and put them into various sized sacks. Those sacks will then be distributed by the Idaho Food Bank to needy families throughout Southeast Idaho. The Bengals, who have their annual Spring Game on Friday night at 6:00 pm in Holt Arena, do not have a practice on Monday.

"Idaho State football has a great tradition of working hand and hand with the Idaho Food Bank," said Zamberlin. "Roy Lacey has worked with us during the season on food drives and thing like that, but this is a way the players can really make a difference in our community." Zamberlin added, "We love the support we get from Southeast Idaho, so to be to show our appreciation like this is good, and I think it is a great way for our players to get involved."

During the season, the final home game of the season hosts a canned food drive for the Idaho Food Bank, a promotion that will continue in the future.
