Oct. 25, 2009
Pocatello, ID --- Andrew Benavides, a true freshman wide receiver from Santa Rosa, California, was injured 11 seconds after halftime of ISU's 40-12 loss at Northern Arizona after totaling 224 all-purpose yards to that point. He was kept overnight for observation in a Flagstaff hospital. Benavides was injured when he tucked his head while getting tackled, and landed on the crown of his helmet near the ISU sidelines. Benavides was put in an ambulance, although he had movement of his arms and legs. A CAT scan was taken on Saturday night and came back negative, and an MRI revealed a ruptured disk. He was feeling better and had good movement in his toes and fingers. ISU receivers coach Drew Miller stayed in Arizona to be with Andrew as his parents flew into Flagstaff as well. The plan is for him to stay in Flagstaff for possibly a few more days and then fly home. There is a possiblity of surgery, although more will be known when the neck swelling subsides. |
