Sept. 14, 2007
Pocatello, ID-- Idaho State head golf coach Dave Molitor announced on Thursday the signing of four players, including two Idaho natives to National Letters of Intent to join the Bengal golf program for the 2007-08 academic year. Joining the men's side will be Payette, Idaho native Nick Morrison, who was a standout golfer at Payette High School. Morrison led PHS to a pair of district championships, including a third place finish at the 2007 state championships. The PHS team captain lettered in golf four times, and also received letters in basketball, cross country, and track. On the women's side, three new players join the squad, including Sadie Venn, Kylie Smith, and Sara Nickels. Venn, the younger sister of current ISU golfer Hanna Venn, heads to Idaho State after a successful career at Twin Falls High School. A four-year letterwinner at TFHS, Venn placed third at the 2005 state championships and was a contributing member of two state titles. Smith heads to Idaho State from Omaha, Nebraska, where she was a four-year letterwinner. Smith played for Marian High School, where she finished eighth at the 2006 Nebraska state championships. She was named Co-MVP for her efforts and was selected to the Nebraska Junior Cup team three times. She was also named to the Four State team, which consists of the top five girls in the state, who go on to compete against a team from Missouri, Iowa, and Kansas. Nickels joins ISU after a standout career at La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A four-year letterwinner, Nickels placed eighth at the state championships in 2007 while helping her team the state championship. She placed fourth at district in 2006, and was named the 2006 Pepsi Player of the Year. Other accolades include a championship at the 2006 women's city tournament, where she shot a career-low 76 in the championship flight. The new recruits join the rest of the Bengals for competition at the Giustina Memorial Classic Sept. 17-18 in Corvallis, Oregon. |
