Las Vegas, NV--Senior Javier Royo and junior Danel Barrenechea advance to the round three qualifier of the doubles consolation bracket with an 8-6 victory over Air Force's Cody Hall and Lance Wilhelm at the Wilson/ITA Division I Regional Championship Thursday afternoon at the Darling Tennis Center. Freshman Colton Pate advanced in the singles consolation draw to the third round qualifer defeating Tony Bulich of the University of Nevada-Reno in three sets. C. Pate opened the day with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Bulich of Nevada-Reno n the second round of the consolations to advance. However, his tournament run ended with Stanislov Glukhov of Idaho who overcame the Bengal 6-2, 6-0. Glukhov pulled out a tough victory over ISU's Barrenechea in three sets earlier in the day posting a 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 decision. Freshman Pate notched a 2-2 record in singles and was advanced the farthest in the tournament for Idaho State. "Colton is doing real well as a freshman. He's had some good wins," said head coach Bobby Goeltz. "He lost today to a kid from Idaho that was a top one or two player. He's doing very well, getting a lot of experience. He's willing to compete with these guys and he can compete. The rest of the guys are doing well too." Senior Royo and junior Barrenechea advance to the third round qualifier after their straight set victory over Air Force's Hall and Wilhelm. Royo was edged out of a close contest with Utah State's Amit Maharaj who posted a 7-6, 7-5 decision over the Bengal. In doubles, C. Pate and his brother Dakota Pate fell 8-4 to Brigham Young's Ricardo Campos and Michael Eraso 8-4. Sophomore D. Pate fell to Montana State's Fletcher Keyes in three sets in a tough back-and-forth contest with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 result. Two Bengals fell to seeded opponents of New Mexico State. Sophomore Dan Buckingham was overcome 6-2, 6-0 by No. 2 seed Jim Brouleau of New Mexico State in the second round of the consolation bracket while Gross fell to No. 25 seed Arthur Surreaux of New Mexico State. Gross and Buckingham teamed up for doubles and were defeated 8-2 by Fabio Biasion and Varun Gunaseelan of Drury.
