Pocatello, ID---The track and field indoor season wrapped up Friday and Saturday as the Bengals hosted the Intermountain Championships, a last chance to qualify for the Indoor National Championships next weekend, Mar. 11-12.
The Idaho State women's track and field team took home four titles, with the men taking three titles. Many of Idaho State's athletes either didn't participate as they prepared for the nationals and the upcoming outdoor season or tried new events, as the Intermountain Championships had a more laid-back atmosphere.
On the women's side, Melissa McLimore won the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.56. It was the first time running the 400 meters this season for McLimore, who usually runs the 800 meters. Senior Michelle Railsback took first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.28 seconds, Jessica Cornia took first in the weight throw with a mark of 53-04.50 feet and Audra Smith won the title in the indoor pentathlon with a score of 3,244.
For the men, Branko Teodorovic won the 400 meter dash with a season-best time of 49.11 seconds. Joining him with titles for the men's team was Tysun Rickards and Levi Keller. Rickards won the 800 meters with a 1:56.67, while Keller took first in the long jump with a mark of 20-07.25.
With the indoor season done, the Bengals will turn their attention to the outdoor season. The teams will travel to Northridge, Calif. to participate in the Cal State Northridge Invitational for their first meet of the outdoor season on Saturday, Mar. 19. The Bengals will find out on Monday if any athletes qualified for the NCAA National Championships next weekend, hosted by the University of Arkansas.
