Provo, UT---Ben Allen, Larnie Boyd, Jana Capps and Kole Henrikson all picked up victories, while Boyd and Capps set Idaho State school records to lead the way at the Clarence Robison Invitational Track and Field meet, held on the campus of Brigham Young University on Saturday. Allen, a junior from Filer, ID, won the triple jump with a leap of 49-9, a personal best and the second longest triple jump in ISU history. Henrikson, a freshman from Richmond, British Columbia, won the men's 800-meter race for the third time in four meets this season with a time of 1:52.89. Boyd, a freshman from Vallejo, CA, continues to improve meet-by-meet as she won the women's 400-meter dash over ISU senior Selena Frazier. Boyd ran a time of 43.31 in the finals, the second fastest time in ISU history, behind only Terri Jones' 53.56, set in 1988. She also ran a time of 54.52 in qualifying, the fourth fastest time in ISU history. Frazier took second with a time of 55.03, the eighth fastest time in school history. Capps, a junior from Jerome, broke the ISU school record in the pole vault with a height of 12-6. The old mark of 12-2 1/2 was held by ISU assistant coach Stacy Dragila. Teammate Solana Kline took second in the event with a height of 11-6 3/4. Capps' previous best in the outdoor pole vault was 11-3. Freshman Peter Komendant tied for first in the high jump with a height of 6-8. Sophomores Trevor Knight and Matt Tyrrell went 1-2 in the 1,500 meter dash. Knight won the event with a time of 4:01.71, while Tyrrell took second with a 4:03.69. Sarah Skeem took second in the women's 1500-meter with a time of 4:52.01. Senior Maureen Griffin won the hammer throw with a toss of 196-9, the eighth longest throw in ISU history. She also took third in the discus with a throw of 141-9. Junior Kim Scott took second in the triple jump with a distance of 38-6, the sixth longest jump in ISU history. The Idaho State University track and field teams will return to action on Saturday, May 3, when ISU hosts its only outdoor track and field meet of the season, the ISU Springfest Meet. |
