Eugene, OR --- Sergio Jones advanced to the finals of the 200-meter dash on Saturday at the NCAA West Regionals, finishing eighth in the preliminaries with a time of 21.42 seconds. Jones advanced by two one-thousandths of a second over Washington's Joe Turner. Jones' official time was 21.412, and Turner's was 21.414. Jones' time was more than three-tenths of a second off his Big Sky-best of 21.09, set May 2 in Cedar City, Utah. The only other Bengal to compete on the first day of the regionals was Eric Strand, who did not advance out of the preliminaries in the 800-meter dash. Seven Bengals will compete on Saturday: Erica Wendt and John Ricardi (3,000-meter steeplechase), Michael Arnold, Levi Keller and Sam Pierson (pole vault), Sydney Wendt (high jump) and Sasha Buylova (triple jump). |
