Bengals Off to a Good Start

Pocatello, ID -- The Idaho State track and field squad can now mark their season as officially open with the completion of the annual Tie-Dye track meet held on Friday and Saturday, December 9th and 10th.

The Bengal squad was divided into two, with one team competing as the orange team and the other as the black, while also being joined by the alumni team who wore red as their team color.

Branko Teodorovic led the Black Team with three victories throughout the meet. He took the 60 meter, 300 meter, and 500 meter dash titles running 7.26 seconds, 35.01 seconds, and one minute, 4.4 seconds respectively.

Helping Teodorovic with team points was fellow Black Team member Ben Layman who won the high jump with a height of six feet, nine inches. Layman also won the long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 2.5 inches.

On the women's side of the Black Team, Jessica Cornia took both the shot put and the weight throw titles. She recorded a mark of 43 feet, 4.5 inches in the shot put and 49 feet, 5 inches in the weight throw.

On the Orange Team side Cassie Merkley and Tiffany Anderson led the way as the only multi-event winners for the Orange Team. Merkley won the javelin throw with a mark of 113 feet, 3 inches and the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 4 inches. Anderson won the 300 meter and 500 meter dashes breaking the tape in 40.90 seconds and one minute, 16.8 seconds respectively.

Kol Henrikson won the 1,000 meter run with Jake Briles and Zeb Sion joining him in single Orange Team wins in the weight throw and shot put respectively.

Paul Hoffman led the Alumni Team with three wins, including the Joker's Race, the 1,500 meter run, and the 3,200 meter run. He clocked a three minute, 50.78 second 1,500 meter run and a 9 minute, 19.20 second 3,200 meter run.

Jackie Poulson won the 60 meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.72 seconds, while also taking the long jump title with a mark of 18 feet, 10 inches. Also earning single titles for the Alumni Team throughout the meet were Paul Litchfield in the pole vault, Ben Allen in the triple jump, Mike Railsback in the 60 meter hurdles, and Brooke Benedetti in the 3,200 meter run. The Alumni Team also won the men's 4x400 meter title.

The Bengals will be in action again on Saturday, January 14 when they play host to the Snake River Open. The meet will begin at 10 a.m.
