ISU Competes In First Indoor Meet Of The Season

Pocatello, ID - In its first meet of the season the ISU Track team performed well. Friday Jan. 12 ISU held hosted its first meet of the season. Competing teams were Utah State University, Southern Utah University, Weber State, and the Pocatello Track Club.

On the women's side the Bengals took seven first place finishes including Jessica Hillam taking first place in both the shot put and the weight throw with throws of 42-02.0 and 52-08.0 respectively. The lady Bengals dominated the field events with Sydney Wendt taking first place in the triple jump with a jump of 36-11.75, Kasie Scott taking first place in the pole vault with a jump of 11-05.25, and Cassie Merkley taking first in the high jump with a jump of 5-04.25. Merkley also finished in first place in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.85 seconds. The lady Bengals also swept the top three spots in the 4X400 meter relay.

Also finishing well for the lady Bengals were Audra Smith with a finish of second place in the 60 meter dash, Melissa McLimore with a third place finish in the 800 meter run and a time of 2:20.93, and Amanda Vink with a second place finish in the long jump with a jump o f17-03.75. Trinelle McKinley had two top three finishes with a second place effort in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.28 and a third place finish in the 400 meter with a time of 58.72.

On the men's side the Bengals finished with five first place finishes. For the field events John Danielson finished first in the shot put with a throw of 57-05.5 while Ben Laymen took first in the long jump with a jump of 22-07.50. Taking first in the 800 meter run was Kol Henrikson with a time of 1:56.78. Dean Connett also finished in first place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.63. The men's 4X400 also took first with a time of 3:19.85.

Other top ISU finishers for the men are Matt Brown and Dean Connett in the 200 meter dash. Brown finished in second with a time of 22.44 and Connett followed just behind in third with a time of 22.66. Ben Layman as well as taking first in the long jump took third in the high jump with a jump of 6-07.50. Sam Pierson vaulted his way to a third place finish in the pole vault with a jump of 15-06.75; Jacob Keller also took third in the triple jump with a jump of 44-01.25. Rounding out the men was John Danielson taking third in the weight throw with a throw of 52-06.50.

The ISU Bengal Track and Field team will next compete in Bozeman MT Jan. 19.
