Natalie Doma is one of the best college basketball players in the nation.  Her combination of size and skill make her a tough matchup for any opponent, as national powers such as Stanford (32 points, seven rebounds in the 2007 NCAA Tournament), Texas Tech (21 points, 10 rebounds), UCLA (19 points, 20 rebounds), Montana (20 points, 15 rebounds), Boise State (27 points, 20 rebounds), Montana (30 points, 11 rebounds), and Montana State (33 points, 11 rebounds)  have found out over the last 20 or so games.  Doma spent the summer playing for her home nation of Canada in the University Games, helpng Canada to a 7th place finish, topping their previous two finishes of 11th in 2005 and 13th in 2003.  Doma's skills as a shooter, a defender, and her stamina make her one of the nation's top players, as the following stats bear.

Natalie was named to the State Farm Wade Trophy List on Wednesday, January 23, as one of three new additions, becoming the first Idaho State women's basketball player named to a National Player of the Year watch list.  She then was placed on Wednesday, January 30 to the Midseason Top 20 players in the nation as she is now on the Wooden List, and she is now a Wooden Finalist, one of 17 in the nation.

Doma Among the Nation

Currently, Natalie ranks 3rd in the nation in scoring at 24.4 and 3rd in rebounding at 12.0 according to the latest NCAA Statistic report, which came out on February 17.  She is the only player in the nation to be ranked not just in the top three in both categories, but in the top 10 as well.  She also ranks 86th in field goal percentage, and 87th in free throw percentage, and last season she was one of four players to average a super double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds per game.  Those numbers helped her become Idaho State's First Associated Press All-America selection, earning Honorable Mention honors.  She also earned Honorable Mention WBCA/Kodak All-American Honors as well.  Doma also went 16-for-16 from the free throw line against Montana, the best single-game performance in the NCAA this season, and the best mark in ISU history, and she has helped ISU lead the nation in free throw percentage.

Doma in the News

Natalie is starting to get some national exposure as her scoring and rebounding numbers mount up.  The January 4 Women's Basketball National Notes compiled by the Associated Press's women's basketball write Doug Feinberg had Natalie as the lead note.  SI.com ran the article on Friday, January 4, and USA Today.com also picked up the article as well.  Also, the SID staff at Murray State researched the top scoring duos in the nation, and they've come up with Doma and her teammate Andrea Lightfoot ranking second in the nation in combined points per game by teammates with a combined 41.1 points per game.  Howard Tsumara of the Vancouver Province had a terrific article that appeared in full color over an entire page of the paper.  She even made the New York Times in a headline this year.

Natalie was recently featured in a great piece by Idaho State Journal sports editor Tim Flagstad, who has covered Doma's exploits the last two years.

Yahoo Sports updates women's basketball statistics daily, to check on Natalie's progress.

Doma was honored as the Big Sky Conference Player of the Year, and was named First Team All-Conference for a third straight season.
