Aug. 17, 2007 Bangkok, Thailand--Idaho State senior-to-be Natalie Doma helped team Canada to a 4-3 record and a seventh place finish at the 2007 University Games in Bangkok, Thailand. The seventh place result is one of the top finishes for team Canada as the team placed 11th overall in 2005 and 13th in 2003. Over the seven games, Doma recorded three double-doubles, including a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double to help Canada's women's basketball team to a 79-64 win over Turkey in the team's first game of the tournament. Doma helped Canada to wins over Turkey (two times), Thailand, and Korea. Doma also notched an 11-point, 10 rebound double-double in a 73-68 win over Korea. She then scored 13 points and pulled down 10 boards in a loss to eventual gold medalist Australia. The 2007 All-America honoree also had nine points and 10 rebounds in a loss to bronze medalist Poland. Doma led team Canada in rebounding, averaging 9.2 rebounds per game over the seven games at the international competition. The Summer University Games is an international multi-sport event that takes place every two years, and is second only to the Olympic Games in the number of participating athletes and countries. The University Games is open to competitors between the ages of 17 and 28 in the year of the Games who are full-time students at a post-secondary institution (university, college, etc.) or have graduated from a post-secondary institution in the year preceding the event. |
