Phoenix, AZ--The Idaho State women's golf team competed in the BSC Preview tournament consisting of a single round to familiarize themselves with the Foothills Golf Course which they will be competing on for the Big Sky Championship on April 21-23rd. Idaho State finished 8th among the teams with a team score of 337 (+49), but showed improvement in the course as they learned the particulars of the holes. Idaho State had 35 pars and 1 birdie. Junior Alysia Hall led the Bengals with a score of 82 (+10). Hall played consistently scoring a 41 on the front and back nine to tie for 21st place. In the 2007 Big Sky Championships Hall captured 39th place with a three round score of 263 (+47). Kylie Smith, a freshman, tied for 27th place with score of 83 (+11). Sophomore Katie Phillips shot a 45 on the front nine and improved to a 40 on the back nine for a score of 85 (+13) to tie for 38th place. Phillips took 40th place in Conference last year with a three-round score of 267 (+51). The Venn sisters finished on the end tail of the Bengal golfer scores. Senior Hannah Venn started off well with a 42 on the front nice but fell in the back nine shooting a 45 to take 40th place with a score of 87 (+15). Freshman Sadie Venn had a rough start with a front nine score of 51 but notably improved as she learned the intricacies of the course to shoot a 45 on the back nine for a score of 96 (+24) to take 44th place. Northern Arizona captured first place in the BSC Preview with a score 314 (+26), a stroke ahead of Montana. Last year at Conference The Lumberjacks finished second with a three-round score of 909 (+45). Northern Arizona's Ali Carter took first place as an individual shooting a 38 on the front nine and 37 on the back nine for a score of 75 (+3). Carter tied for 6th place in the Big Sky Conference last year shooting a three round score of 226 (+10). In 2007, Idaho State took 8th place in the Big Sky Conference Championship with a three-round score of 992 (+128). The Bengals shot a first and second round score of 329 (+41) and a third round score of 334 (+46). Sacramento State was the 2007 Big Sky Champion when they competed at Goodyear, Arizona with a three-round score of 884 (+20) which propelled them to capture 16th place at the NCAA West Regional at St. George, Utah with a team score of 952 (+88). The individual title holder for the Big Sky Championship was Sacramento State's Maragaux Sheehan with a three round score of 216 (E). The Bengals take their time before the first day of the Big Sky Championship on April 21st to analyze the Foothills Golf Course in Phoenix, Arizona in preparation for competition. |
