Complete Big Sky Championship Day 2 Results Phoenix, AZ--The Idaho State women's golf team continued to hold ninth place through the second round of the Big Sky Conference Championship at the Foothills Golf Club Tuesday morning. The Bengals improved their second round scoring by fifteen strokes. During the first round Idaho State shot a 336 (+48) then followed up on the second day with an improved second round score of 321 (+33) to shoot two-round score of 657 (+81). Senior Hannah Venn held her lead for the Bengals despite a poor second round score of 81 (+9). Her two-round score of 157 (+13) places her tied for 21st place. Venn along with freshman Kylie Smith maintained one of the best par 5 scoring averages of the tournament with a 4.75 (-2). Venn has also hit three birdies during the championship. Smith improves to 35th place after her superb second round of 76 (+4) to give her a combined two-round score of 163 (+19). Freshman Sadie Venn moved up four spots in the leader board to tie for 40th place. Venn improved by nine strokes in her second round with 80, eight over par for a two-round score of 169 (+25). Junior Alysia Hall shaved three strokes from her second round, but was not enough to improve her standing on the leader board. Hall shot a two-round score of 171 (+27) to hold 44th place. Sophomore Katie Phillips had a rough second round when she shot an 89 (+17) for a two-round score of 175 (+31) to hold 45th place. Portland State fired a 297 during the second round of the Big Sky Conference golf championship to take a six-stroke lead into Wednesday's final round. Portland State overcame the previous leader, Eastern Washington, with a combined two-round score of 603 (+27). Northern Arizona held second place during the first and second rounds. The Lumberjacks shot a two-round score of 609 (+33). Eastern Washington fell to third place when they gained ten strokes in the second round for a two-round score of 610 (+34). Heading up the individual lead is Northern Arizona's Ali Carter shooting even in the second round for a two-round score of 146 (+2). No players broke par in Tuesday's second round, but three players were at even par. Montana freshman Carissa Simmons joined Portland State's Aubrey Vaughn and Carter at 72. All players are over par for their two-round scores. The first round leader, Eastern Washington's Kellie Holmstedt struggled in the second round when she shot a 78, six over par. Holmstedt heads to the final round of the championship in third place. Second place is held by Portland State's Hannah Bews with a two-round score of 148, four over par. The third and final round begins Wednesday at 6:52 a.m. with Phillips leading the way. She tees off with Brittany Roberts of Weber State and Montana State's Kate Steffanich. Senior Venn will have the last tee off time for the Bengals at 7:22 a.m. with Aubree Nickle of Weber State and Montana State's LaRae Smith. |
