Pocatello, ID-- After three months of waiting the ISU women's golf team looks to get back into competition with their first tournament of the spring season. Fifteen teams are set to compete at the Red Rocks Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona from March 1-2 at the Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona. Hannah Venn, a senior, feels confident about her swing and is ready to compete. "I want to keep my score low and see what areas I need to work on; I just hope I can play consistently like last season." Venn holds the team's lowest season scoring average of 84.22 as well as the lowest career scoring average of 83.5 from 2004-07. As well as having an excellent fall season with a top-ten finish in the WSU Triangular and a top-twenty finish in the Cal Poly Invitational. Venn holds three career top-ten finishes and four career top-twenty finishes. Eight teams return for a third consecutive season to the event including Montana, Montana State, Northern Arizona, Cal-State Northridge, Portland State, UC Riverside, Western Michigan and Wyoming. This year Idaho State along with South Carolina Upstate, Southern Utah, Utah Valley University, Northern Colorado, Eastern Michigan, and Oral Roberts will join the field for their first time in the tournament. The course consists of 18 holes spread over 6,089 yards and is a par 72. Tee time on Saturday begins with a shot gun start at 12:30 p.m. and a shot gun start at 8 a.m. on Sunday. |
