June 3, 2009

Pocatello, ID --- ISU soccer coach Allison Gibson has announced that Becky Hogan, formerly of Winthrop University and most recently the head coach at Skyline High School in Utah, has been named assistant coach for the Bengal soccer program, replacing Hideki Nakada, who left last month for Marquette University.

Hogan has a wide breadth of experience in women's soccer, ranging from playing experience to coaching. She has been involved in all facets of the club level in Utah, and she has been the head coach for the Utah Rush Soccer Club in Bountiful since 2006, and last year she served as the head coach at Skyline High School in Salt Lake City, leading Skyline to a second place finish and their first state tournament appearance in six years.

She also has coaches with the Utah Avalanche and the Utah Youth Soccer Association, and she spent one season as an assistant at Winthrop University, a member of the Big South Conference, where they picked up big results, including wins over Western Carolina and Georgia, and a tie against Clemson.

Hogan also has experience playing professionally, playing for RushSLC of the Women's Professional Soccer League, the Boston Breakers of the WUSA, and the Chicago Cobras and the Denver Diamonds of the W-League. Hogan was a three-time All-Big 12 selection for the Nebraska Cornhuskers from 1995-98, and she also was named to the All-Big 12 Tournament team as a senior. She was a part of three Big 12 tournament titles (1996, '97, and '98), advancing to the Elite 8 in 1996 and the Sweet 16 in 1997 and 1998. She served as a team captain as a senior.

"I feel extremely fortunate to have acquired a coach of Becky's caliber to join my staff. Not only has she played at the highest level both collegiately and professionally; but she has also coached at every level from youth to semi-pro," said Allison Gibson. "Becky holds an "A" license, the highest coaching license in the United States proving her commitment to soccer education. She is joining us from her most recent position as a club coach in Salt Lake City, and her connections within such an elite club system will be a definite recruiting advantage."

She earned her degree in English in 1998 from Nebraska, and she also has an "A" coaching license from the U.S. Soccer Federation, a personal trainer certification from American Muscle and Fitness, and she earned a secondary education teaching certification from Weber State in 2009.
