Pocatello, ID--Idaho State University head women's soccer coach Allison Gibson has announced the signing of Ashley Jones, a three-time Utah State Champion, to a letter-of-intent for the 2009 season. She joins Rachel Strawn, Michelle Buhrle, Alishia Cairl, Shauna Fleming, Laura Perez and Shailee Smith in the recruiting class of 2009, marking a total of seven signees.

Jones is a three-time 5A State Champion helping her team to the title in 2006, 2007 and 2008. She scored four goals during the four tournament games of state competition in 2008. The 5-8 midfielder from Alta High School in Utah, was named to the All-State First Team in 2007 and 2008 after lettering in soccer from 2005-08. She scored the most assists for Alta in 2007.

"We are excited to have Jones add to the offensive threat of the game and play besides (Annamarie) Hofstetter and match her intensity and strong work ethic," said head coach Gibson.

She was named as ESPN National Player of the Week on September 17, 2008 when she was a figure in all three goals as Alta, the state's top-ranked team, defeated state No. 2 Brighton 3-0. Jones scored the first goal on a penalty kick then assisted the last two goals.

Not only has Jones competed in one of the best high schools for soccer in Utah, she has also competed for the Utah Avalanche, a highly acclaimed club soccer team from Utah.

"She comes from two great programs (Alta High School and Utah Avalanche) which speak volumes. She is use to winning," said Gibson. "With her great experience she should step in and make an impact."
