Game Notes 2: New Mexico State
Pocatello, ID--Idaho State takes on New Mexico State as they continue their tour around New Mexico having fallen to the Lobos 2-0 on Friday. ISU will play New Mexico State on Sunday, August 23 at 12:30 p.m. at the Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces, New Mexico in the Aggies. It will be the first time the Aggies and Bengals meet on the pitch as it is New Mexico State's inaugural season. Fans can follow the contest with live stats at www.nmstatesports.com. Idaho State comes off 2-0 loss to New Mexico at the UNM Soccer Complex. The Lobos out-shot Idaho State 14-8. Idaho State had two on goal shots and New Mexico had three. ISU had five players on the field for 90 minutes. The Bengals backline held tough against New Mexico allowing the Lobos to take 14 shots, but only three on goal. Megan Stainbrook, Kacey Ball, Karissa Henage-Fisher, and Lauren Hough started in the backline and freshmen Morgan Olson, Alishia Cairl and Shailee Smith substituting. Stainbrook, Ball and Henage-Fisher each played 90 minutes. Senior Christina Beseris who served as a defender her freshman through junior seasons has moved up into the midfield. Beseris serves as a deep sweeper in the midfield. Idaho State is lead in shots by Laura Perez as she posted two against the Lobos with one on goal. Stainbrook also posted a shot on goal. Ball, Christina Beseris, Annamarie Hofstetter and Shailee Smith also had a shot during the game. In total ISU had two defenders post shots. The Aggies come off a 1-0 overtime loss to UTEP at El Paso. The Miners out-shot the Aggies 19-2. New Mexico State's senior keeper Katie Graul made seven saves. Freshman midfielder Jazmin Cardoso was the only Aggie to take a shot as she unleashed two against UTEP. New Mexico State held off UTEP in the first period allowing them to make just five shots, however the Miners rallied to post ten shots in the second period and four in overtime before closing out the game by capitalizing on a loose ball. The Bengals keep an eye on its Big Sky opponents even during the non-conference season. Portland State defeated Oregon State 1-0 in Corvallis, Oregon. Weber State defeated Westminster College 2-1 in Ogden, Utah. Northern Arizona fell to Utah State 2-0 in Logan, Utah. |
