I want to start by saying we are the new Governor's Cup Champions! I like to call us the Idaho State Champs of the D1 college league. We played Boise on Friday and University of Idaho on Sunday. It was a great weekend and we had some great wins. On Friday we played Boise State. That was a great game and we knew they were gonna be tough competitors so we knew we had to come out and start fast and take it to them in the beginning of the game. Well we did just that. We came out and scored two goals in probably the first 10 or 15 min of the game. It was awesome! We won 5-2! Jana Boehler, Chelsea Cox, Michelle Okumura, Jenny Ford, and Lauren Hough each scored to make our win complete. When Jana and Chels scored, we were playing so well. Everything we did worked. Then either we relaxed too much or thought the game was over with our 2-0 lead, but something changed in our performance. Because of our lack of intensity, Boise scored 2 goals on us. We allowed them to tie the game. We went into the half up a goal and at the beginning of the second half is when they tied the game. As Coach Allison put it, we needed to decide to play. It took us a while--Boise probably thought they were gonna win--but we finally decided to play, and we took it to them. We scored 3 goals in probably three of so minutes. We couldn't be stopped! Kilee Quigley played a through ball to me, I took it down the side, drew the defender in to me, and played the ball across because I knew it was more important for us to get the win than for me to have a risky shot. I crossed the ball and Michelle was there to finish it off. She drove that ball home; she nailed an amazing shot that ultimately gave us the confidence to win the game. She had the game winning goal. After that, Jenny and Lauren finished off the Boise team with their goals. It was very fun to win like that. Then came Sunday's game against Idaho. We came out and played hard and fast, but could not put the ball in the back of the net. We were creating such great chances, but couldn't put them away. We went into the half tied at 0. We knew we were playing well, but we knew that would not be enough; we had to finish our chances. Finally that happened, and it was spectacular! Jana Boehler was almost on the outside the eighteen close to the sideline when she took an amazing shot. It practically floated over the outstretched fingers of the Idaho keeper and almost bent into the far post. It was unbelievable, but if anyone could make that shot, Jana was the girl. Only her skills don't stop there. Later on in the half, she gave the assist to Crosby Joyner, who tallied her first goal as an Idaho State player--Way to go Cros!!!! We finished the game with a 2-0 win. Oh and Maren Eves got her shutout!!! She definitely earned that shutout. She, and the entire defensive line, played a great game. It wasn't the prettiest style, but it was perfect--the scoreboard can't lie! So now we are heading to Utah to play against University of Utah and Utah State this weekend, and all I can say is those Utah teams had better watch out, cause we are coming to win!!! |
