Oct. 6, 2008
Pocatello, ID--Redshirt senior goalkeeper Maren Eves-Williams from Sandy, Utah was awarded Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors for matches played from September 29-October 5 by the Big Sky Conference for the 2008 season. The award is Eves-William's first Player of the Week honor of her five year career. She shares the honor with keeper Rebecca Ritchie of Weber State who's performance mirrored Eves-Williams. In her third game of the season, since breaking her thumb in the first week of practice, Eves-Williams posted a shout out against a strong Gonzaga squad with nine saves. She improves her career shutouts to eight and her total career saves to 138, both fourth-most for a career in Idaho State history. Eves-Williams played all 110 minutes of overtime to post two saves in the first period, three in the second, and four in overtime. Her award is the second Player of the Week honor, both were defensive, for Idaho State this season. Freshman Keeper Michelle Harrison was honored on August 25th for her performance in the first game of the season. Weber State's Ritchie matched the Bengals performance as she also posted a shutout and nine saves against Gonzaga. Ritchie earned three saves in each half of regulation play and another three in overtime. She has now been selected as Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row. The Offensive Player of the Week was awarded to Elece McBride who posted three assists against the Hornets 2-0 triumphs over Nevada and UC Santa Cruz. McBride provided the game-winning assist on freshman Jordan Carlberg's goal in the 40th minute against Nevada, and accomplished the same feat on Katelin Hopping's game-winner in the 29th minute against UC Santa Cruz. Excluding the Hornet's penalty kick against Nevada, McBride had her hand in every goal the Hornets scored this weekend. |
