April 2, 2009
Greeley, CO --- Idaho State softball has accomplished a lot of firsts this year. Now they can add playing a tripleheader to the mix. Idaho State and Northern Colorado, future Pacific Coast Softball Conference foes, have basically smushed their three-game weekend series in Greeley into a tripleheader on Friday, starting at 10:00 am. The teams will play game two 20 minutes after the end of game one, and game three 20 minutes after game two ends. All of this is weather permitting. It's weather that is causing the change in the first place. Originally, the three game series was to start with a single game on Friday at 4:00 pm and a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon. The chance of a late snow storm altered the teams to go with a doubleheader at 3:00 pm on Friday and a single game at noon on Saturday. Then, the latest forecast out of Greeley calls for later isolated thunderstorms on Friday night, and a snow storm all day on Saturday. With the high on Friday expected to be 59 degrees, and the high on Saturday just 35, with a low of 16, the teams opted to switch the series to a tripleheader on Friday. The last time Idaho State played three games on the same day was on April 16, 1983 when the team beat Chico State and Nevada but lost to Oregon State in the University of Nevada Tournament. If the teams get all three games in, it will be the first tripleheader in Bengal softball history. Idaho State is 11-16 this season, and Northern Colorado is 11-20. |
