Miller, Dixon Earn Second Team All-Independent Honors



Megan Miller led the Bengals with a .345 average

Bakersfield, CA -- Megan Miller and Heather Dixon were both named to the All-Independent Second Team for softball in a vote of the independent coaches and media relations directors. The announcement was coordinated by the media relations office at Cal State Bakersfield.

Miller, a 5-3 sophomore from Vancouver, Washington, led the Bengals in batting, hitting .345 for the season, with a team-leading six doubles, 38 hits, and 19 runs scored. Miller was sixth among all independents in batting this season. She was one of three outfielders named to the second team.

Dixon, a 5-8 junior from Boise, Idaho, was ISU's top power threat, hitting a team-leading seven home runs and knocking in 21 runs scored. Her seven home runs were third among all indy players. Dixon is also ISU's all-time career leader in home runs with 19.

Georgetown shortstop Samantha Peters, Longwood pitcher Briana Wells and Utah Valley outfielder Meghan Woodworth earned the major individual honors. Peters, a sophomore from Suwanee, Ga. was named Player of the Year. Wells, a freshman from Romoland, CA picked up Pitcher of the Year honors while Milford, NH native Woodworth was tabbed Freshman of the Year. Longwood University Head Coach Kathy Riley was named Coach of the Year.

The teams were selected by a vote of the coaches and media relations directors at the seven independent institutions for softball that played full division I schedules. Those schools are Cal State Bakersfield, Georgetown, Idaho State, Longwood, Northern Colorado, Savannah State, and Utah Valley.
