Bengals Meet 18 Big Sky Qualifying Marks :: Women Capture Five First Place Finishes

Logan, UT--The Idaho State track and field team traveled to Utah State University to compete in the Mark Faldmo Invitational Saturday afternoon. The women's team had an impressive weekend when they captured five first place finishes and met 14 Big Sky qualifying standards. The men had one second place finish, six third place victories and met four Big Sky qualifying standards.

For the women, junior Trinelle McKinley took first place in the 400-meter run with a 59.29 finish while senior Nicole Yurek captured second place with a 59.98 finish. Freshman Erica Wendt took first place with a time of 4:50.45 in the 1,500-meter run. Senior Mandi Janowitz captured first place in the javelin throw with a distance of 124-01.

Sophomore Sydney Wendt took first place in the high jump with a height of 5-06.00. Sydney Wendt tied for second place with Erin Bell with a distance of 18-09.75 in the long jump, capturing the tying for the seventh best Top-Ten Performances record at Idaho State. Both Bengals jumped a Big Sky qualifying mark.

Carrie Talbot took first place in the shot put with a distance of 42-10.25 and she captured fourth place in the discus throw with a distance of 139-04. Talbot also threw a distance of 163-3 in the hammer throw to capture fifth place and took the seventh best performers record at Idaho State with her Big Sky qualifying mark. For the men, freshman Sergio Jones had an excellent weekend by meeting the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championship standards for the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. He captured second place in the 200-meter dash with a 21.19 finish and took third place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.50. His 100-meter dash performance also gave him the seventh best performance in school history. In addition, Jones captured third place in the long jump with a distance of 23-03.50.

Freshman Eric Strand took third place with a time of 1:55.60 in the 800-meter run. Senior Tysun Rickards captured third place in the 1,500-meter run with a 3:59.69 finish. Sam Pierson, a sophomore, took third place in the pole vault with a height of 16-00.75. In the triple jump Raegan Ward took third place with a distance of 43-07.75.

The Bengals return to action at the Robison Invitational on March 23-26th in Provo, Utah.
