Decathlon and Heptathlon Results

Provo, UT --- Rain and near-freezing temperatures forced the cancellation of several events, but not before the Idaho State track team added five new Big Sky Conference qualifying marks and improved or match four others at the Robison Invitational, hosted by BYU on Friday and Saturday.

The women did their damage in the 400-meter events. Sophomore Kylee Gleason ran the 400-meter dash in 57.56 seconds, and senior Nicole Yurek finished in 57.84 seconds. Both times will be adjusted up .11 seconds, but both still made the Big Sky standard of 59.0 seconds.

Seniors Carrie Connett and Ashley Turner also qualified in the 400-meter hurdles. Connett posted a time of 1:04.16, and Turner ran a 1:04.55. As with the dash, both times will move up .11 seconds for altitude, but the standard is 1:05.00, and both easily surpassed that.

The only new Big Sky mark on the men's side was hauled in by Sergio Jones, who jumped 23-00.75 in the long jump, passing the Big Sky standard by more than six inches. Eric Strand improved his time in the 800-meter run and now has the second-best mark in the conference, and Jed Sion added more than foot to his conference-leading mark in the discus throw.

For the women, Turner matched her season best in the 100-meter hurdles, running a 14.60 that will become 14.64 when adjusted for altitude. Sydney Wendt also shaved off time in the 400-meter hurdles, posting what will be a 1:01.60 in the event, missing the NCAA Regional mark by less than one second.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Levi Keller posted an NCAA provisional mark in the decathlon.

The women's discus throw, men's triple jump and women's high jump invitational were all canceled as well as the finals for both 200-meter dashes and 400-meter hurdles. Both 4X400-meter relays were also wiped out by temperatures that dipped to 37 degrees toward the end of the day on Saturday.

The Bengals are back in action this weekend at the SUU Invitational in Cedar City, Utah.
