Idaho State Out Blocks North Texas for Four Game Victory

Orem, UT--Idaho State out-blocked North Texas 11 team blocks to five to continue on its winning streak of two victories in its four game defeat over the Mean Green (26-24, 25-23, 17-25, 25-23) at Utah Valley in the Shurian Family Activity Center on Saturday afternoon.

"It's the best match we've played all year for sure," said head coach Chad Teichert. "When the blocks are better it is easier to play back row defense."

Idaho State recorded a total of 20 block assists, led by senior Brenda Cooper and Sarah Carson with seven each, stifling the opponents who were able to put up only five total blocks with six block assists. The Bengals posted 11 team blocks and one solo block from sophomore Britta Bartschi and only committed two block errors.

Three Bengals recorded double-doubles, senior Cooper was just three blocks shy of a triple-double as she posted 10 kills with only three errors for a .304 percentage, 10 digs and 7 block assists. Junior Emily Waldron posted her third double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs while setter Blakely Peppinger recorded 40 assists, a career-high, and 12 digs.

Idaho State was out-hit by the Mean Green as the Bengals posted 49 kills with 19 errors for a .195 percentage while North Texas recorded 62 kills with 27 errors for a .222 percentage. However, from the Bengals out hit the Mean Green the first two sets. North Texas recorded 20 kills and only three errors in the third set for a .447 percentage which attributed to the third set victory.

The Bengals look to continue their success as they play for a first place against tournament host Utah Valley 7 p.m. at the Shurian Family Activity Center.

Note: The Idaho State soccer team was in attendance to cheer on its fellow Bengals before their game against Brigham Young at 7 p.m. in South Stadium ... Utah Valley defeated North Texas in straight sets Friday Night.
