Schedule/Results | Roster | News | Archives Nikki Havens Serves up First Edition of Bengal Volleyball Diary
Aug. 16, 2005 Entry #1 We are young, fresh, and look oohhh so good this season. From the first day of practice these young spirits are ready to take on the world. There is a lot of intensity coming from the hearts of all the new faces this year, and with half the team stepping foot in Reed (Gym) for the very first time this is a great sign. These youngsters are really bringing the heat with Jessica (Gurney) in the middle just setting the sets on fire when they come her way; she assures us that we will have a strong attack coming from the middle. The setting is also impressive and very consistent for just the first week of practice. Lisa Bushman is really setting the standard for a couple of new faces with sweet hands, Blakely and Amanda. Coming fresh out of a season where we were expected to do so much more than we did, I am so excited to see that we have some awesome talent and athleticism coming from all the new faces. We were picked in a pole of the coaches from the big sky to come in last but we all know what happens when the Bengals are underestimated. Coming from someone who has been around the big sky just a little bit I know that there is a great deal of opportunity in this conference. On any given night, at any given site the team who comes to play wins in this conference. I have been on the underdog team more than once in this conference with people expecting us to loose and walk off the court with a big "W" because my teammates kicked it up a notch when the time was right. We are so lucky to be in this conference come game night, there is no telling what will happen. Who ever comes to win will. There is no where to go from bottom but up for us right now, and we are ready to jump out of the gym on our fresh new legs. And that, my friends, is the great thing about having a young team. We are all ready to come out and win. On the first day of practice the word of the day was "competitiveness". Each newcomer had a moment of glory on that court. We played many competitive games that forced the tiger to come out in all of us, and wow do these new-b's have some fire to share...... ......well these are my thoughts... join me next week, and join us in Reed whenever you can. See you there Nikki Havens |
