Bengal Diary - Entry #5

Entry #5

Sept. 12, 2005

Denver, Denver, Denver.......

This weekend ISU volleyball was two completely different teams. We were a team that came out and dominated a great team, winning in three games in the match against DU, and a team that fell to two beatable teams in the Jacksonville, and TCU matches. This season we have talked a lot about what kind of team that the coaching staff expects this year, and I saw that team on Friday morning against Denver. Unfortunately, that is not always the team that comes to bat for us all. The fate of the Bengals stands on "who shows up" as Felice Yocopis would say. Because when true Bengal volleyball is being played we are not only fun to watch, but scary to play against. It just is not pretty otherwise.

We have a lot of potential, more than you could know. But potential is a funny thing. There are a ton of athletes with potential that never play beyond a high school level. The great thing about potential is that when used in combination with heart and discipline, amazing things happen. The sad thing about potential is that when not properly nursed it is more than a waste, it is a tragedy.

On Wednesday night we will be at home playing Boise State. I am ready to play Bengal ball again. And I know that my teammates are too.

See you on wed, you bring the noise we'll bring the fire. Nikki Havens
