Bengal Volleyball Diary - Entry #8

Entry #8

Oct. 3, 2006

This season is flying by. I hope that you have enjoyed the season thus far, and I hope you continue to enjoy it. This past week was really nice; we were home all week, and this helped us to stay caught up on our work and to be able to attend all of our classes. We had two home games this week. One against Portland State, the other was against Weber State. We also had the amazing opportunity to put on an assembly for a local private school here in town, Grace Lutheran. This past week was really great and eventful for our team

We started our events off last week with our assembly at Grace Lutheran. We played a short exhibition game in front of their student body. This was followed by comments from our senior players to the children about reading and being successful in school. They told the kids that if they were successful in school that maybe someday they could play college sports just like all of us. The kids really enjoyed this. We signed autographs after the assembly, and a small group of our team was able to visit the classes of those who could not attend the assembly and share our message with those children as well.

The next event in our week was our game against Portland State on Thursday night. This is a performance hard to talk about. Basically we didn't play well. No one really had a good game. We got beat in the first three games and were done. Luckily we are a fairly good "bounce back" team. We forget our losses quickly.

The next night we bounced back to beat Weber State three games to one. This of course was an important game for us, so we were very happy to come out on top. We played well as a team overall. It was a good end to a long week.

This upcoming week we have three home games. We play University of Utah on Tuesday, Northern Arizona on Thursday, and Sacramento State on Saturday. We are looking forward to a great week with an even greater ending. The two final games of the week are Big Sky Conference games and those are always very important.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT
Our spotlight player this week is # 5 Katie Hurst. Katie is from Bountiful Utah. She is a junior outside hitter. Katie brings a great positive attitude to the team along with incredible athletic ability. Throughout Katie's career at ISU, she has played every position on the floor besides setter. This shows that Katie is an all around great volleyball player. Even though Katie is only a junior, she has been on our ISU team as long as our three seniors because they were all transfers. Katie is a very sweet and positive player. She is sociology major. She loves to travel with her family and also enjoys spending time with them. I hope you feel a little bit more personally acquainted with one of our great ISU volleyball players, Katie Hurst.

Thank you for your support and interest in ISU volleyball. We look forward to your support this upcoming week as we play host to three great teams. GO BENGALS!
