Bengal Volleyball Diary - Entry #12

Entry #12

Nov. 1, 2006

It was another week on the road for our ISU Bengal volleyball team. We played on the road at Eastern Washington on Thursday followed by an on the road game verses Portland State on Saturday. It was a week that came with many challanges.

Our team was hit with many unexpected things. The first was Jessica Gurney our middle blocker going down with a small knee injury. We left her home in hopes it would heal faster to help her be back 100% for this upcoming week. In our team practice on Wednesday night at Eastern Washington Kate Hurst was injured. Katie Hurst and I collided causing a small fracture in her nose. This did not hold her from play, but she did have to wear a plastic face mask to keep her nose protected. Final problem came when our middle blocker Zoe Beltz came down with the 24 hour flu. Zoe was unable to eat for a day and worshiped the porcelain gods for most of the night. Zoe did not even attend our match because she did not want anyone else on our team to get sick and she was staying at the motel to try and rest to get healthy. All of these challenges come in one week. This made for an interesting week for our team along with posing unique challenges for our coaches.

We took Eastern to four games. We had a great second game against them but were unable to keep that same intensity going into the next two games. We lost to Portland in three. Our team did not play well. We were very quiet and somewhat sluggish during the whole match. We never really got into a rhythm. This was a tough weekend. We are looking forward to a much better week.

We will be playing Weber State on Thursday then traveling to play Sacramento State. We are looking forward to a great week against two good teams. Thanks again for all your support. GO BENGALS
